Time is of the essence! I've lost that most crucial and important of all pieces of technology... my macbook charger!
Because of this - I have 44 minutes left, no, wait! 43! 43 minutes to try and write and edit a fairly cohesive and interesting blog post with less than 20 grammatical errors which possibly 54 people may or may not read.
So here is a mini unnecessary update before I write about the important stuff.
1) I'm back in my London flat. New flatmates. A new cafetiere*.... I've got hot pants on which I am 90% sure are my mothers. I am not sure if my choice in wearing them in October is a sign of my lack of clean clothes or my mental well being. But we will see if I make the choice to leave the house in them and then we will make that judgement.
2) I have two new flatmates. One who spends most of his time with his top off and talking about kick boxing**. I played his mum in our university production of Festen by David Eldridge in 2011. The other flatmate is long and vegan and her bedroom is very literally our old bike room. I can only assume she sleeps standing up like Nosferatu. It's like living with a magical red headed sprite who just pops out of the cupboard every now and again. She's in a play at the Etcetera Theatre which you should all go and see. She's Ariel. Obviously. Tickets here.
3) Edinburgh Festival 2016 was a great success. Should probably have written about that earlier, but it seems like a dream now. Pelican at Voodoo Rooms went brilliantly. WIth mentions in The Observer, The Guardian, The Telegraph alongside more and 4 star reviews from over 10 publications. Couldn't have been more thrilled with how it went. BUT IT WAS SO KNACKERING. Now looking to do a mini tour of it in 2017 at the beginning of the year. So if you have a venue that you think would work for it, get in touch.
4) GEORGIA O'KEEFFE is amazing. Her exhibit at the Tate Modern helped knock me out of a very drizzly depression. Made me realise how important art is for the soul. Also check out Claude Cahun if you haven't before. Her name is one that more people should know of .
[APPARENTLY I ONLY HAVE TWENTY MINUTES LEFT?!?! The above only took 2 minutes to write! YOU ARE INSANE MACBOOK PRO CIRCA 2012 - INSANE! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU]
Thus - it seems I have little time to be literary and artistic in my writing approach - I'm going to have to stop the preamble and get straight to the point - here are the cool things going on in my working life which I want you to pay attention to.....
THE MATRON PRESENTS....
#lgbtq #queercomedynight #newcomedynight
Brand new queer comedy night that I am launching at Her Upstairs in Camden. A comedy night in the style of an old school all-girls boarding school talent show. It's going to be weird and it's going to be bloody fun. Tell all your friends. Our first night is on the 18th October. Line up is gay and fabulous and includes John-Luke Roberts, Joe Hart and Mawaan Rizwan. I'm m.cing the whole thing as my evil bouffon comedy character The Matron which I developed at Duckie Homosexualist Summer School in July. It involves me wearing a catsuit, wearing a mop on my head and shouting at an imaginary 11 yr old called Abbie. It's weirder than it sounds. Tickets are £5 in advance to guarantee a seat or PWYW on the night. Ticket link here.
THE POLYAMORY SHOW
#liveart #weirdstandup #theatre
There is little to type here except that JLR and I are developing a stand-up live theatre show together to do with polyamory. We are going to share the stage, together, at the same time, talking about the same topic, in our own ways, comedically. It's part autobiography and part weird science comedy experiment. More details to follow... I don't have time now I ONLY HAVE 18 MINUTES LEFT! (I lost 2 to answer a tinder message)
RARARA THEATRE - HILDA AND THE SPECTRUM!
#clown #theatre #doubleact #sketch
Last week I had Ryan Lane in my bedroom for the entire week. Which was great. It was like sharing the bed with a really long, cute gangly gay fawn. We are developing our show Hilda and The Spectrum which we built in Gaulier together - with the aim of touring it next year and taking it to EdFringe 2017. We did a work in progress at Camden Comedy Club last week and turns out it was a rather good success. It was funny. We were thrilled. We are going to do it again. But we are not sure where yet... so watch this space.
Here's the blurb:
Hilda and The Spectrum is part clown show, part love story, part autobiography. It follows the meeting and relationship between two otherworldly outsiders – Mr X and Hildergarde – as they meet on a dilapidated allotment in Cricklewood. Do they know each other? What is in Mr X’s briefcase? Why is Hilda’s accent so peculiar? What is THE SPECTRUM? How do they both know David Bowie? Using a concoction of mime, clown, improvisation and live music Hilda & The Spectrum is a bizarre, funny offbeat piece of new writing with a soviet kitsch feel. Imagine The X Men meets The Mighty Boosh – (this comparison is mainly because there is one really cool bit of stage combat in the play and one of the characters has telekinesis).
I've started a podcast. Inspired by the pro-active nature of Jane Postlethwaite (her new podcast Character Build will be launching on SOAP soon - I was very lucky to record the first three episodes last week) I decided to get my act together and put together my dream podcast. I'll be launching it in November. It's called The Dinner Party and I'll be interviewing some of my favourite people from industries and areas such as the arts, economics, science, fashion and academia about the ten people (fictional and non fictional) they would have to dinner. The line-up is really dynamic so keep your eyes peeled on my soundcloud for when I start releasing my episodes. You can also listen to my erotica there too! Click here.
Finally, this month, I am going sober for charity. My aim is to raise £150. Please sponsor me. I need the help and support.
THERE IS NO TIME TO WRITE EVERYTHING ELSE....
Have a great day.
*First grammatical error/ spelling mistake I've noticed which I don't have time to correct.
** It's definitely not kick boxing but I am certain I can't spell what it is actually called.
